From the vault. Taken January 2007.

While visiting my friend Evan in NYC I ran into a labor rally. The local 94 operating engineers union was staging an event. It all happened quite fast. I was walking around Columbus Circle when barricades and a ton of people came out of nowhere. This was one of the first instances where my professional camera got me access to certain places I wouldn’t have been able to be without it. I passed the police lines and got close to the events and people giving speeches right by the news cameras. Below is my favorite shot from that day.

Went out to The K today for opening day. It was a little wet and a little cold but lots of fun. Bannister recovered from one shaky inning to pitch a decent game while Nunez and Soria did what they do to preserve the Royals 5th win. A-Rod struck out 4 times, the fans were really giving him the business.

The new video board? Amazing. It is one gigantor looking screen that has amazing picture quality. There are some animations that can make you dizzy, I really believe someone with epilepsy would have a problem with it. They pack in a lot of game information in the space. It is a lot like the kind of setup you have during live internet feeds of games like ESPN gamecast. The design elements and typography are done well enough to make everything easy to read.

The Royals seem to have done a decent job controlling the flow of people with all the construction and changes. It wasn’t as much of a hassle as I thought it would be. The parking was a bit of an issue for Chris and I. Once we entered without a parking pass we were directed to Lot “L”. Have you heard of Lot “L”? I haven’t either. I have gone to countless events at the Truman Sports Complex for many years. In all that time spent at Arrowhead or The K I don’t think I have even seen Lot “L”. It is like some island you would see in Super Mario Brothers 2, but there we were parking in it. We had to tip the Indian Guide to get to the ballpark.

All in all a fun day.
