It seems there are a lot of ups and downs with the teams I follow lately. Here is what is going on in the sports world.

Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs absolutely knocked this one out of the park. It is going to be great to see our linebackers go to work with the freedom this defensive line will give them. They got the offensive lineman they wanted and also made some strong second day picks including Brendon Flowers who I am really excited about. Getting a blocking tight end to replace the absence of Dunn is a great move as well. More info on the draft and the undrafted free agent signings be sure to check out Arrowhead Pride.

Kansas City Royals -
Royals rebound after that terrible 7 game skid. After that bad losing streak I will refer to Meatloaf’s opinion about getting 2 out of 3 games. Hopefully the bats can wake up as we start to move into May. Aside from that, what is up with powder blue jerseys matched with the white pants? It is really bad. If you are going to go powder blue then go powder blue. Blech.

Kansas City Wizards - The Wizards don’t seem to deal with first place very well. They seem to lose every time they jump into the top spot in the conference. They are still playing great soccer in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference. Next game is May 3rd @ Columbus.

Kansas City Brigade - They finally won. The Brigade actually won a game. When time expired in their game on April 21st the Brigade had more points than the Crush did. Wow.

Chelsea FC - From the bottoms of a small league to the tops of a big league Chelsea won a HUGE game against Manchester United to pull even with Man U at the top of the Premiership. The Blues were back 8 points two weeks ago but now have a shot at the title with 2 games left to go.

Royals Beat Yankees 5-2

Went out to The K today for opening day. It was a little wet and a little cold but lots of fun. Bannister recovered from one shaky inning to pitch a decent game while Nunez and Soria did what they do to preserve the Royals 5th win. A-Rod struck out 4 times, the fans were really giving him the business.

The new video board? Amazing. It is one gigantor looking screen that has amazing picture quality. There are some animations that can make you dizzy, I really believe someone with epilepsy would have a problem with it. They pack in a lot of game information in the space. It is a lot like the kind of setup you have during live internet feeds of games like ESPN gamecast. The design elements and typography are done well enough to make everything easy to read.

The Royals seem to have done a decent job controlling the flow of people with all the construction and changes. It wasn’t as much of a hassle as I thought it would be. The parking was a bit of an issue for Chris and I. Once we entered without a parking pass we were directed to Lot “L”. Have you heard of Lot “L”? I haven’t either. I have gone to countless events at the Truman Sports Complex for many years. In all that time spent at Arrowhead or The K I don’t think I have even seen Lot “L”. It is like some island you would see in Super Mario Brothers 2, but there we were parking in it. We had to tip the Indian Guide to get to the ballpark.

All in all a fun day.

All kinds of interesting things have popped up lately. Wanted to write more about the events but I thought I would just throw the basic stuff on one post.

Spoon Concert - Had a blast. The Uptown is my favorite venue around here and it was a good fit for the band. There were some small technical problems they were having with a song but the overall vibe their recent album puts out was translated really well to their show. Surprise favorite songs in “Ghost Of You Lingers” and “Don’t Make Me A Target”. Some random guy from Craiglist came through for me in the hours leading up for the show ticket wise, I couldn’t believe how many responses I got from my simple CL ad.

Ink Magazine KC Live Party - Didn’t think I was gong to check this out but had time to kill before the concert. This shindig gave me a better feel of how the KC Live area can be used. While Megan was people watching Chris and I couldn’t stop talking about how marketable the space was and how many things we would try to pull off if given the decision making ability. Ink Mag has been getting a lot of heat from the local blogs but it was a better read than I expected. They have a lot of information and seem to have unique view points. The website has promise but is way too cluttered. I think they are going about blogs the wrong way in a gated fashion.

Buzz Prom - This was my second night at the Uptown in three days. Met up with my friends after a brutal night at work. This whole shindig had me skeptical…it had all the makings of a let down. Cover band, 80’s themed, night of huge basketball game, and pushed endlessly by a radio station. It turned out to be the perfect answer to a night that had previously been terrible. The band “The Zeros” were impressive. As soon as I walked in they played “The Metro” by Berlin which is a fantastic song that generally doesn’t fit into the playlist of popular 80’s music. Everyone was dressed up, drinking, and dancing. Lots of fun.

Wizards Beat Rapids 3-2 - Sealy scores late to improve the Wizards record to 2-0. It looks as though I am going to make the game on Wednesday. Hopefully there will be an opening for me to do some photo work.

This next week is about photography. Taking more photos, developing the Kansas City website, and getting more gigs. Lots of work to do. Right now I am throwing some photos together that will be published in a car audio equipment trade magazine of all things. Will post the story when it goes public.
