Chiefs Improve Team And Put Clown Shoes On Denver

Chiefs fill needs. Bronco fans consider canceling season tickets over debacle…

The word is out on the Chiefs acquisition of Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel. In Cassel there are hopes the franchise QB Kansas City has been seeking since the dawn of time is here bolstered by Todd Haley’s love of intermediate passing and saying brutal things to Brian Waters in the hallway.

The really interesting part is the mushroom cloud that went off in Denver. There are conflicting reports, but it seems as though the former Patriots offensive coordinator now newly crowned head coach in Denver wanted Cassel as their QB and was willing to trade Jake Cutler to get him.

Here is how the information trickled out…

- Chiefs trade for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel for a 2nd round draft pick in 2009. (Via KCChiefs.com)

- Adam Schefter then reports via NFL Network there were other teams trying to get Cassel but deal with Chiefs is done and in place. (Via KFFL Patriots Wire)

- Then there is the WTF moment of the day. John Clayton reports on NFL Network that Jay Cutler is upset and wants to be traded.

- Vic Lombardi reports that the Broncos are actively trying to shop Jay Cutler and he got upset about it when he heard. The Bucs were trying to acquire Matt Cassel so they could trade him for Jay Cutler. (Quote below and information via CBS 4 in Denver)

The Broncos had a three-way deal in the works late last night with the Patriots and Buccaneers. The proposed trade would’ve sent Cutler to Tampa and Matt Cassel to Denver. That deal fell apart when Cassel was traded to the Chiefs earlier this morning.

Broncos GM Brian “Colonel” Xanders came out and says “”We are not trying to trade Jay Cutler. We will not trade Jay Cutler. He’s a Pro Bowl Quarterback.” (Via CBS 4 in Denver)

Cutler thinks he is still on the trading block and is upset about the whole deal.

Back to the present.

I can’t believe Xanders is sticking to the “we only fielded calls and didn’t actively try to trade Cutler” line. It just so happened 3 different NFL teams were interested in the same exact idea on the same exact day?

It is funny the Broncos let word get out that they wanted what is now KC’s QB and seemed to alienate their own franchise QB as a result. Cutler is a skilled QB even if he is immature and lets other teams get in his head. They love him in Denver and they see him as the future. When word surfaced that their new coach was trying to shop their golden boy they wanted to burn Dove Valley down. Some fans even considering cancelling their season tickets. (Via Orange Mane)

It is intriguing to think about all the different players in this game and how well they know eachother. Maybe Pioli sensed McDaniels’ fondness for Cassels and how much he would like the QB to run “his system” in Denver. Pioli has of a understanding of a deal under the table with NE and then lets other teams try and and battle for a player he already has? Getting a few laughs at a division rival in the process.

Chiefs Sales Guy: “Long list of people who will Buy As Soon As Herm And Carl Are No Longer Here.”

// December 5th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

A message board community for Chiefs fans had a great thread showing a conversation between someone working in sales at the Chiefs (poor guy) and a potential ticket buyer.

The Chiefs fan got an e-mail talking about how there were still tickets left for the two remaining home games this year and that this was a good time to reserve season tickets for next year. He replied that he should be put down for tickets when Herm and Carl are fired…the sales person said verbatim “I have a long list of people who will buy as soon as Herm and Carl are no longer here.”

This is where we are right now with the Chiefs. Pretty amazing. Source info via Chiefs Planet. Feel free to check out the actual e-mail conversation (with the names changed to protect the innocent) after the jump.

Want To Play Safety For The Chiefs? Can You Dance?

// April 30th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Thoughts

There seems to be something in the water if you are a safety for the Kansas City Chiefs. It started last year on HBO’s show “Hard Knocks” getting a clip of Benard Pollard dancing while players were goofing around in the locker room. Then last week the Chiefs drafted S DaJuan Morgan out of NC State in the 3d round. After running across a post game clip of him on YouTube it seems as though he will carry on the new tradition that is forming at Arrowhead. Jarad Page and Greg Wesley need to get to work. Thanks to Clayton for the video editing.

Sports Wrap Up

// April 28th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

It seems there are a lot of ups and downs with the teams I follow lately. Here is what is going on in the sports world.

Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs absolutely knocked this one out of the park. It is going to be great to see our linebackers go to work with the freedom this defensive line will give them. They got the offensive lineman they wanted and also made some strong second day picks including Brendon Flowers who I am really excited about. Getting a blocking tight end to replace the absence of Dunn is a great move as well. More info on the draft and the undrafted free agent signings be sure to check out Arrowhead Pride.

Kansas City Royals -
Royals rebound after that terrible 7 game skid. After that bad losing streak I will refer to Meatloaf’s opinion about getting 2 out of 3 games. Hopefully the bats can wake up as we start to move into May. Aside from that, what is up with powder blue jerseys matched with the white pants? It is really bad. If you are going to go powder blue then go powder blue. Blech.

Kansas City Wizards – The Wizards don’t seem to deal with first place very well. They seem to lose every time they jump into the top spot in the conference. They are still playing great soccer in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference. Next game is May 3rd @ Columbus.

Kansas City Brigade - They finally won. The Brigade actually won a game. When time expired in their game on April 21st the Brigade had more points than the Crush did. Wow.

Chelsea FC - From the bottoms of a small league to the tops of a big league Chelsea won a HUGE game against Manchester United to pull even with Man U at the top of the Premiership. The Blues were back 8 points two weeks ago but now have a shot at the title with 2 games left to go.

Chiefs Select Glenn Dorsey With The 5th Pick…

// April 26th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

Chiefs select the dominant DT from LSU with the 5th pick in the draft. The Chiefs almost pulled the trigger on trading down for even more picks but decided to go with Dorsey in hopes of a big presence in the middle. Really looking forward to the freedom this player will give to our linebackers to do their jobs.

Dorsey is a high-character guy who is a coach’s dream. He puts the interests of the team above his own personal concerns and is all about winning. He’s compact, strong, and lightning quick. It often seems as if he’s moving before the center snaps the ball. Against the run, he’s a true plugger, taking up two blockers consistently and erasing holes for the ball-carrier. He’s able to stay low and create power from his legs and use his long arms (35″+) effectively to keep blockers at bay. He moves well laterally and can get down the line in pursuit. As a pass-rusher, Dorsey’s quickness allows him to penetrate the gaps and his strength allows him to overpower the offensive linemen. There are very few NFL blockers currently that could handle Dorsey one-on-one. Dorsey is a team leader, both vocally and demonstrably. He played through pain his senior season and even maintained a positive perspective in the days leading up to the draft when rumors were floated regarding a “clandestine” knee surgery that never occurred. He’s going to be an asset in the community for whichever franchise is fortunate enough to draft him.

Kansas City Chiefs 2008 Schedule Released

// April 16th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

I am a little late to the party getting this info out there. (Via KCChiefs.com)

09/07/08 at New England Patriots
09/14/08 Oakland Raiders
09/21/08 at Atlanta Falcons
09/28/08 Denver Broncos
10/05/08 at Carolina Panthers
10/12/08 Bye
10/19/08 Tennessee Titans
10/26/08 at New York Jets
11/02/08 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
11/09/08 at San Diego Chargers
11/16/08 New Orleans Saints
11/23/08 Buffalo Bills
11/30/08 at Oakland Raiders
12/07/08 at Denver Broncos
12/14/08 San Diego Chargers
12/21/08 Miami Dolphins
12/28/08 at Cincinnati Bengals

If you are looking for one of those little symbols that denotes a “national TV game” you won’t find any because the Chiefs won’t have a single one this year unless they are “flexed” into it. Even with the potential problems the Chiefs will have this year the ‘08 schedule is pretty easy. We have a buzzsaw starting off against the Patriots at their house but @Falcons @Jets @Bengals? Not too bad. I don’t think there are a weaker 3 divisions you could be matched up with. Our own in the AFC West is looking shaky, our AFC match up in the AFC East and the NFC South don’t really scare me that much.
