P+L vs DJ Jazzy Jeff Continued. Sound System Issues?

Update: Cordish tells their side of the story.
As the story of last night’s drama in Kansas City unfold some possible explanations are coming to light. Read last night’s post about the incident here.
The comment section of Pitch Blog is blowing up as it normally does with people that very strongly believe in their view points…the heated back and forth comments have a few gems of information.
I was a stage tech for this show and I can tell you that the ONLY thing Jazzy Jeff was warned about was pushing his mix too hard. At the risk of damaging an audio system worth over 50 grand, he was POLITELY asked multiple times to lower his outputs. He acted like a complete prima donna – not a professional. Jeff was not removed from the stage, his completely disrepectful MC was. Jeff responded by walking off. There is an issue here of professionalism and responsibility for ones actions. How you can possibly chalk this up as racism is a total mindblower. You have to ask yourself…why would P&L book Jeff, knowing who he was and what he played if they intended to boot him off the stage in the name of racism. Does that sound like an intelligent PR move? The doors of P&L are open to anyone who comes to enjoy a safe, fun atmosphere.
Was DJJJ pushing his music so hard it was making the speakers clip?
In the same comment thread Steve has this to say…
Steve says:
So there’s a half a million dollar PA system but no compressors or limiters installed to prevent output signals from clipping/damaging equipment? Sounds fishy to me…
Skillz a preforming DJ responds to allegations of sound problems.
I was the MC there. My name is Skillz ..for proof hit me @ twitter.com/skillzva and Jeff didn’t push any levels..we were told that they didn’t want RAP music played after we started. The mgr’s exact words to our road mgr was ” we don’t want TI played here” as we played Live Your Life feat. Rihanna. We played clean versions and I didn’t curse or disrepect the venue or the crowd. We played Kanye, TI, Neyo and Big Markie’s Just a Friend..which are all top 40 or known records. I was told by my road mgr to annouce to the crowd why were were stopping. I asked why? And he said they said they don’t want rap music played” I said you want me to say that to them ” and he said yes. So I did. I said word for word ” I have just been informed we have to stop because they don’t want rap music played here” I said jeffs website address and we left. I dropped the mic( and that was the only thing that couldve been taken as disrespect). We went backstage and the Barcardi people apologized to us. I went to the side of the stage to speak to a friend. And the stage a guy walked up to me and said ” why would you do that” I’m like ” do what” he replied ” why would you turn the crowd against me” and I’m like ” excuse me, who are you?” And he replied to the cops ” I want him off the property” and I was escorted out. It was 30 people there with me when that happened.I left. Later that night we were told that ” my posture ” was an issue. They said I continued to grab my crotch and throw gang signs. It was never an issue of sound. They didn’t want rap music in their spot. And me being there dressed with my jeans and my hat on backwards telling peeps to sing the words to Neyo was too much for them. I’m sure they’re thinking different this morning though.
This is video taken by Patrick Binder right before he was asked to stop playing.
Ouch and another blow from opening act Z-Trip via Twitter.
Leavin KC. Def 1 of the top 5 most bizzare shows ever. They did Jeff wrong. Don’t blame all of KC, just the racists who ran that spot. Weak.

I agree – “So there’s a half a million dollar PA system but no compressors or limiters installed to prevent output signals from clipping/damaging equipment? Sounds fishy to me…”
There are ALWAYS three sides to every story – both perspectives and the truth. Regardless, this was a just another chapter in the racially charged (short) history of KCP&L.
So here’s my conspiracy theory – the P&L people who booked him thought he would be playing his old hits like “Parents Just Don’t Understand” but completely freaked out when he ended up playing other stuff. I have no proof to back this up, just a gut feeling I have.
