Roylas Win Opener In Extra Innings

// March 31st, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

Great win against a good team. Royals win 5-4 in extra innings at Detroit. A lot of good performances today especially impressed with the pitching of Nunez. They just kept grinding it out and found a way to win.

On a side note…I just noticed this is post #1,000 for this blog. Wow, 1k…who would have thought?

Saturday Is A Good Thing

// March 29th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

Really enjoying this Saturday. Taking it easy this afternoon and covering an event this evening doing the photography thing. Wizards home opener tonight against DC United. Go Wizards. I also thought I would post something that gave me a few laughs today…

Turn It Up

Driving down Broadway I looked up at the marquee at the Uptown and just about flipped out. Spoon is coming to Kansas City on Wednesday. Spoon kicked out my favorite album of last year in Ga Ga Ga Ga. I have been waiting for a show like this for a while and they couldn’t be playing in a better venue.

It seems like a few days later on the 5th I will be at the Uptown again for this thing 96.5 the Buzz has been pushing really hard that it is tough to get tickets too (thanks Megan!) called Buzz Prom. They have this 80’s cover band that a bunch of people love and I hear it is a good time. Should be a group of people that can make anywhere fun so it should be a good deal.

In online music news I ran across something called Muxtape. It lets you upload mp3 files to your own play list and from there your play list gets its own page that people can go on and listen to the songs through. It is beautiful in its simplicity. It is easy to upload and the process of listening to the songs couldn’t be simplified anymore. You go to someone’s playlist page and click the song in the list once…it begins playing. The developer promises a long list of feature rollouts for the future but this is a cool way to share some music with others. I put up a few songs on my page here

GOOOOOOOOOAL!! The Soccer Post

// March 27th, 2008 // No Comments » // Thoughts

I have been big into soccer for a few years, starting in high school. As time goes on I get into it more and more. Foxs Soccer Channel is part of our cable package at my house in Kansas City, thank god they do sports better than they do news. There is interesting stuff on FSC all the time. International games, US National team games, MLS, English Premiership, Italian Serie A, German Bundislgia, the list goes on and on. Wizards season starts up soon and I will be doing what I can to catch a lot of games even with the stadium farther away. It seems I will even be getting to take some pictures for the club here and there.

This week was exciting with the English Premiere League winding down. Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 to keep themselves in the title hunt and set up for an eventual showdown with Manchester United who beat Liverpool 3-0. Below are a few video clips from these games. The first one shows Chelsea getting the equalizer from Drogba. The strange places these clips come from is almost as enjoyable as the soccer. On top of the hilarious excitement of the commentators you get to see the most constipated looking man in the world in Chelsea’s manager Avram Grant. I am not a Manchester United fan but the second clip shows the celebration after Nani put ManU’s third goal of the day in. The fans in the background make the video so cool to watch. Great shot.

Nice.

Missouri moved up to No. 2 after dominating Baylor over the weekend. The Tigers shut out Baylor twice and outscored the Bears by a combined 22-2 margin.

Work and Play

Exhausting. This weekend was completely exhausting but good.

This was a huge weekend at work so it meant long hours and being called in unexpectedly but I still fit in time with friends that came into town. Every week my friends and I try to go to lunch somewhere around the city. We stopped into Eggct. where I had a really good Eggs Benedict Florentine. They do great work over there although we turned into a sports bar when they turned on one of the NCAA games as we were eating. It got pretty loud when Western Kentucky hit that amazing game winner. The place wasn’t really ready for the reactions of a dozen or so sports fans.

Evan and Joanie really wanted to check out the Kansas City Power and Light District so we went to Raglan Road. Lots of fun. Pints and Irish Car Bombs all over the place. This is the first time I really felt the KCP+L District looked like a district rather than a set of different bars that happened to be in the same geographic location. There were a lot of people out and about enjoying the KC Live area. I was pretty surprised at how big Raglan was. It was nice to be at a place that had a lot of people but wasn’t “sorry my elbow is in your spine right now” crowded. It was nice to see Dirk and Evan from NYC to spend some time with us. There are so many exciting things happening in the lives of all of us.

Easter Sunday was profitable. Very profitable. Danny gave me a call after a long day and we went to Brio to sit on the balcony area and have a drink. I think we are both going to hit this up a lot during the summer, it is a really relaxing place to hang out and they have great Food+Beverage selections. There was a guy playing music upstairs, had a really strong voice and did some covers.

Back to the grind. There is a lot of website work to be done and I have to confirm a possible event gig for Saturday. I am going to readjust my sidebar on this site to represent some of the new things I have been reading. There are a lot of good Kansas City sites I have been getting into as well as a lot of funny personal sites mostly originating from the writers at College Humor. Below is a random photo from the archives that has no connection to anything written in this post. Enjoy.

Projects are still rolling.

Actual website production is underway on a Kansas City-centric photo website I have been thinking about doing since the dawn of time. The site design is slowly taking shape and it is an exciting but frustrating process. They payment process is still in a bit of flux as well. Photos are being mapped out (literally) and watermarked. This is the first photo project I have done that I thought could actually benefit a great deal from traditional (for the web) advertising strategies such as adsense. It won’t need word of mouth alone to try and keep it standing.

Different gigs are popping up here and there including an exciting private party type deal covering a Las Vegas night some folks are having.

Soon enough it will be prime shooting weather. I need badly to start doing more shots, I am bored to death with the stuff sitting in my Lightroom catalog.

Here are a few experimental type shots.
