Truman Sports Complex
I have a problem. Sometimes I will get up at a decent hour and hustle and bustle and do the work of my day and then I will crash. Crash way too hard. Drifting into a nap that is quality but so amazing that it makes it hard to sleep when the night comes along. This was one of those nights. Feeling wide awake and knowing I could sleep in the next morning I rode under the cover of darkness to Truman Sports complex. I had me eye on the big Royals symbol you see driving on I-70. Armed with camera and tripod I drove down a little road where they shoot fireworks off when (god forbid) the Royals get a home run. The angle was quite good but there was one thing. This huge light pole. I could not get a good view of the whole thing without that light pole either physically being in the way or giving off enough yellow ugly light to mess up the crisp blue sharp colors I was trying to get. I tried every little trick in the book. At 3:23 in the morning I realized a shot of the whole thing just was not meant to be. From there some more issues came up. The huge white structure poles that blocked parts of the logo. I knew these poles were around but I thought I would be able to place myself so they would sit nice and neat on each side of the “KC” letters. Not so. At least not without letting that damn light pool, my new enemy, into the picture. It was getting late (or is it early?) so I did what I could and made a swing across the whole complex on my way home. I ended up getting a few shots I was quite happy with. The Royals ones? Not bad…but not what I had in mind. It happens. Nice photographs below. You can also click here for a shot of the devil pole to see where I am coming from. If you dare.
