Great Night Of Music

Bloc Party? Fantastic. The Uptown was a perfect venue for the group’s impressive set. Kele brings a great energy to the stage and the drummer is just insane. I have never seen a group of their kind so driven by the drums.

Bloc Party was the highlight of the evening but I expected them to put on a good show. The quality of the openers was surprising. Bloc Party brought along two more London based groups in the Maccabees and the Noisette’s. The Maccabees (who have a very impressive website) came on stage first. The first thing you notice is how young they are. The second thing you notice is how talented they are. The lead singer in particular showed a comfort on stage that was impressive. Their sound is actually quite similar to the headliners sound. A brighter and quirkier version. Below is a video for their song “First Love” you can also check out some more of their videos for the songs “About Your Dress” and “Precious Time“.

I didn’t connect as much with the Noisette’s but they had really unique personalities. The lead singer has an intense Shirley Manson type style that takes over the show. The drummer goes about his business in this trance like state. It really is a sight watching this group go to work.

BJ and I walked out of the show pretty drained. People were handing out all kinds of fliers and I grabbed at one and read it as we walked to his car. A few seconds later I started laughing and jumping around. It turns out Ozma is coming to Kansas City to play at the Grand Emporium in July. Thats right Ozma. I have written on here before about how much I enjoy this group. That will certainly be something to look forward too.

If I’d known they were going to be up there I would have gone. I dig the Bloc Party. Sounds like it was a good show.
