This City

// June 30th, 2007 // No Comments » // Thoughts

My time back to Kansas City has been good. It has been an adjustment living in a more urban type setting. For a while I felt pretty small being used to easy going towns but lately it feels like I have a better hold on the city and how best to get around, get along, and get things done. I haven’t focused on my photography skills as much as I need to. Hopefully some money stability and a less frantic work schedule (I put 13 freakin hours in today!) will allow me to get working on the stuff that is truely important. Sure, I have taken some good photographs here and there but it is the same old stuff I always do. Some unique perspective landscape\architecture shots with a slight creative slant. Yes, I like taking them and yes, I am proud of them but there is no reason for me to keep meandering in this safe zone doin work I have done a million times. I need to expand and get better…I used to want to do different stuff all the time. What happened to that drive?

Slowest Week Ever?

// June 27th, 2007 // 2 Comments » // Thoughts

How is it time can go by so slowly when someone starts a new job. This phenomena is happening with me right now. The job is easy and and people are nice enough so that is a good thing but there isn’t much to draw me in like some of my previous jobs. It is more of an emotionless grind. I believe the money will be decent. It has to be.

Get into work at about 8 or 9 and go until 4 sometimes as late as 7. Then I take a small nap and get out to do picture for a few hours. This doesn’t lend time for other things. I need go out of my way to get some enjoyable recreation in between these times or things will get rough for me. I don’t do well when I don’t fit in at least some time that reminds me who I am away from a job in between multiple shifts.

Interesting Tool: Jott

// June 26th, 2007 // 1 Comment » // Thoughts

Pretty sure this will be filed under “You are a huge dork” but Jott is a newer service that I have been using and really enjoy.

There are a few ways you can use it. Think of it as voice memos that can be transcribed organized and stored. You sign up for it with your phone number and you use it by calling a toll free number given to you. Once you do that you are prompted asking “who you want to jott” from there you say it is either yourself or a number of contacts you can set up. From there a number of things happen. If I say myself then I continue with my message like “the sign at 43rd and main would be good for pictures”. The service records that audio and then transcribes it for you so you can retrieve it on your own Jott page at a later time. So you have the next and the audio. If you set up your list of contacts I could have said a message that is then sent in the form a text message for someone else.

So you can text or e-mail easily without messing with the buttons.

I use it to remember little things that come to me as I go through my day. A place I see for a photograph, a museum I want to remember, or any idea that pops into my head. There it is for me when I hit my computer organized and everything.

Good luck to the US who takes on Mexico in the Gold Cup Final. Should be a fun game to watch. I will be able to catch the first half. Pardon that crappy music but below is a pretty good compilation vido of the rivalry.

I will also be heading out to the Wizards game with Danny. Hopefully they can pick it up from that bad loss to the Crew.

Contra Obsessed

During lunch at Danny Edwards BBQ today some old Nintendo talk came up. Joel and Chris were telling Megan and I about Chris’ old Contra glories. Here is the terrible thing about the internet. When you think you are great at something all you have to do is pop it (whatever it may be) into google and get humbled my someone from some distant place. This is especially true with video games. Type almost any video game name into YouTube and you will find a walk through of someone dominating it in a fashion the game designers probably never thought possible. There is also the possibility of a complete strategy breakdown on the game. Chris decided to explore this with Contra. We have a room for our computers that we use as workspace in the house. I looked over and saw him watching someone’s Contra quests and it wasn’t long before I heard some excuses roll out…something about that person had to be using turbo or codes or something of that nature. The internet is a humbling place. You want to know how scary some of these gamers are? Enjoy this complete rundown of how to play Super Dodge Ball. Whoa.

Got A Job

Got a gig to keep those bills paid while I work on the photography stuff. Should be a good one. The place has been open since 1882. Man, that was a good a year.
