I am always on a search for new music. Thats why I was really excited to stumble on to the music of “The Bees” through Josh Rouse’s website. The sound was layered and melodic. I immediately connected with it. A few clicks of the mouse later an album of theirs wound up on my hard drive for my listening pleasure. Don’t ask me how it got there crazy things happen. When I got around to listening to the album I was really impressed. But it didn’t really sound like the first set of songs I heard from The Bees. Confused I jumped on to the information super highway to do a search. When I looked at the discography for the album I downloaded “Octopus” it was nowhere to be found. But there it was on my computer labeled as being done by The Bees with album cover art to back that up.
So what the hell is going on?
Finally the answer became clear. There are two groups called The Bees! And even though they are distinct groups they are both quite good and have a varied sound that is very deep. “The Bees” that I first read about and listened to through Josh Rouse’s site are described below. (Via BeesMusic.com)
Referred to by NPR’s World Café as “poised for a national breakthroughâ€, by Performing Songwriter Magazine as “brilliant and incomparableâ€, by All The Rage as Nashville’s “It Bandâ€, The Bees (U.S.) formed when producer Jason Lehning met singer/songwriter Daniel Tashian. Tired of predictable modern rock, they began to conceive a sound relying heavily on songwriting and harmonies.
The Bees that did the Octopus album are described via Wikipedia.
The Bees are an English band from Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Although they are classified as an indie rock group, they play a particular style of music that is somewhat hard to categorize, as the band have a colourful range of influences, such as 60’s rock, reggae and jazz.
So now I have two new bands I am into that bear the same name. I reccomend both of them. Below is a song that really stuck out to me called “Listening Man” by the UK group. Enjoy.
