UCLA Library Tazer Incident

This video really is incredible. It is from Powell Library at UCLA. Campus security was during random “BruinID” checks and this kid didn’t have one so they asked him to leave. He wasn’t complying to officers were sent to the scene and what happens next is in this video. There is questionable language in the video.

When you first see it you think “wow, that was rough” and then it keeps going and going. First of all, this kid is the wrong. There is no reason to comply with the officer’s instructions. Having said that, there are a lot of things that are wrong with this picture.

- This kid wasn’t a threat. He was handcuffed behind his back with 4 officers around. He wasn’t acting violently he was just a dead weight. They could of easily taken him out of that building in the position he was in.

- Why keep barking the orders at him to stand? Do you think tasing this person was going to make him more rational? Again, take him out of the library.

- The continued use of the taser when the crowd moved out into the hall was completely senseless.

- Didn’t you love it at the end when other students are objecting to this terrible situation that an officer says he is going to tase the kid in the white shirt?

This is absolutely intolerable!! I don’t understand how all those kids can stand around and not do anything! The kid in the white shirt looked like he was trying to reason with these demented security guards or whatever they were but that’s it! I don’t care if it’s a police officer or what but some people need to get what’s coming to them. And what about that kid that was tazed during John kerry’s speech? Sure, he was being obnoxious, but is that any reason to taze the hell out of him? Where’s the justice? Has this country fallen so far that police are untouchable and have the power of God at the their finger tips? Will no one stand up for these kids? I’ve just posted a new video on my website of a woman that recently got the sh*t tazed out of her while she was on the ground!! I hope that cop rots. I honestly think we should bring back the hammurabi order. Eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. Strap all these worthless hacks down in a room and taze them all for five minutes straight. See how they like it.

II am a junior at Kent State University and I can’t help but be reminded of those shootings that occurred on this campus so many years ago. I am just learning of this incident via the internet and by all accounts that I have read and the video shot in the library this was a gross abuse of power that leaves the population at large feeling helpless to respond. I grew up in the inner city of Cleveland, Oh, and have experienced police brutality 1st hand, but this is not to say that I am incapable of being objective. I understand that being a police officer is a thankless job that can be extremely dangerous, but I have been pulled over by a police officer, who was black, who told me “The reason I pulled you over is because you’re driving a crappy car with a white female passenger in a nice neighborhood.” What occurred in the library was nothing more than officers on a power trip demanding obedience from another person, obedience..???? Are we dogs? Are we pets? Am I to believe that because someone wears a uniform I should obey his commands? The officers acted irresponsibly when they continued to taser the student while upsetting the entire student body in observance. This could have easily boiled into a riot, and yet it all could have been avoided if they had just carried him out, which by the way is what they ultimately did anyways, but not till after the 4th taser shot. Police officers are a great resource and brave protectors of the innocent, but there should be oversight by the student government at any college of campus police. After all these are the people who are affected by the decisions made by the police officers, or maybe a joint counsel of student representatives and college professor and/or administration so at least someone can hold these officers accountable.
