I am pretty sure the subject is an example of how you should write out the date in an APA style paper. That always struck me as strange. It just looks awkward.

There is some nasty weather headed our way yet again but it looks pretty cool this time around and feels good. As dreary as the day was I had a great day at work. Sometimes things just run smooth and you leave thinking you actually helped some people out today. It is a good feeling.

What isn’t a good feeling is money. I am just not good with it yet. I don’t buy outlandish things but I make too many 6ish 7ish dollar purchased at Subway or a photography store doing prints. I am nickel and diming myself to death.

I am considering killing my bank cards. Maybe it would be a better idea to make them really hard to get a hold of so if I did actully get to them I know it was for something that was worth it. I could make some “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade” type challenge that would put me toe to toe with death to obtain that little card.

Maybe that is taking it a bit far. The idea behind it might not be a bad one though. There was a small amount of time recently where I was without my card and I found myself being a lot more thoughtful about my purchases without really “going without” in any way. It is something I am going to think about. Just using the card for the occasional online purchase and physically getting money from the bank when I need it.

Never Take Sides Against The Windows

I know it was you Linux. And it breaks my heart.

Even though the installation of Linux killed everything on my computer I am trying not to hold a grudge. That isn’t fair. It is my fault everything was scraped from digital landscape but this site is not FairnessIsHere.com so I am going to place blame on something else.

After using Linux for a few days I still feel great about it. Even though using it casts me into a state of computer geekery I can never return from it has treated me well. Everything runs smoother. Nothing about this computer changed except for bloated windows getting killed. I think this new OS fits me really well with all the multi tasking I do. Aside from a normal windows-esque taskbar you have small boxes with sets of work spaces that trade off without any lag. So I can put any photo editing I am doing in one window and switch to some browsing or chatting I am doing in another instead of having a million little windows I can manage all my different things in their own little rooms.

One of the big things I was worried about was “can so and so program work if I make the switch?” For the most part the answer is no. You have to change the way you think about things. I have been able to find a free program that does everything I have needed to do. Even though the programs don’t crossover from Windows there are programs for Linux that do literally everything you used those other programs to do and they are all free for the most part. OpenOffice replaces MS Office Suite. GIMP replaces Photoshop. Rhythm Jukebox replaces iTunes. Not everything is equal or superior. Some things are better than their Windows counter parts and some need some work but I have been amazed at how easy it has been to get different programs to fit my high matinence computing needs.

Starting from scratch has given me a chance to reorganize everything I have. I am building up a system for archiving and keep things like pictures, videos, and music much better than I ever did.

As far as building up my music collection lets just say BitTorrent is my friend.

My Worst Tech Nightmare Comes True

Blame it on the phone I was talking on…

Blame it on Revenge of the Nerds II being on TV…

Blame it on me…

My computer was wiped out in wee hours of Sunday. It happened while I was trying to install Linux and make it so both OS’s could be used. This is a very standard practice that doesn’t cause problems if you don’t have happy fingers that mess things up.

There is good mixed in with the bad. The good thing is a lot of really important documents I need are still around. All photos I have are online so none of my photography goodness was lost.

The worst part is the music. I lost all of my music. Anyone who knows the amount of time I spend listening to music and the fact that my whole collection was on my computer has their mouths wide opened because they realize the time I spend with that stuff.

It is ok though….music can be obtained again.

It is nice to have a nice working clutter free environment computer wise. This new OS is impressive and fits my tastes pretty well. If I don’t like it I can always go back to bloated WIndows.

What a world…
