Racism In The US? Of Course.

When I first started making this post the title was going to be “Unbelievable” but then I realized it’s not. This didn’t even suprise me. I am not sure what is worse. Me not being suprised or the examples below. Thanks to Terrance for the heads up.

Idiots In Kansas

This would be a lot funnier if Kansas wasn’t so ass backwards for it to be in realm of reality.

Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity with New ‘Intelligent Falling’ Theory

KANSAS CITY, KS—As the debate over the teaching of evolution in public schools continues, a new controversy over the science curriculum arose Monday in this embattled Midwestern state. Scientists from the Evangelical Center For Faith-Based Reasoning are now asserting that the long-held “theory of gravity” is flawed, and they have responded to it with a new theory of Intelligent Falling.

“Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, ‘God’ if you will, is pushing them down,” said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University.

Burdett added: “Gravity—which is taught to our children as a law—is founded on great gaps in understanding. The laws predict the mutual force between all bodies of mass, but they cannot explain that force. Isaac Newton himself said, ‘I suspect that my theories may all depend upon a force for which philosophers have searched all of nature in vain.’ Of course, he is alluding to a higher power.”

Founded in 1987, the ECFR is the world’s leading institution of evangelical physics, a branch of physics based on literal interpretation of the Bible.

According to the ECFR paper published simultaneously this week in the International Journal Of Science and the adolescent magazine God’s Word For Teens!, there are many phenomena that cannot be explained by secular gravity alone, including such mysteries as how angels fly, how Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Satan fell when cast out of Paradise.

The ECFR, in conjunction with the Christian Coalition and other Christian conservative action groups, is calling for public-school curriculums to give equal time to the Intelligent Falling theory. They insist they are not asking that the theory of gravity be banned from schools, but only that students be offered both sides of the issue “so they can make an informed decision.”

“We just want the best possible education for Kansas’ kids,” Burdett said.

Proponents of Intelligent Falling assert that the different theories used by secular physicists to explain gravity are not internally consistent. Even critics of Intelligent Falling admit that Einstein’s ideas about gravity are mathematically irreconcilable with quantum mechanics. This fact, Intelligent Falling proponents say, proves that gravity is a theory in crisis.

A Litte Box Of Music

I took some gift cards I got from Best Buy from my birthday and purchased an iPod mini. I really like it so far. It wasn’t to much more money to get a little clip on thing that makes it so it streams to the FM tuner on my car stereo.

It is really nice to have around campus. Downtime a lot more bearable. I have found that music is really enjoyable while walking around from place to place.

This gift is going to get a lot of use!

Good day at school. Sociology was cancelled. Grind it out Monday is done!

Big Addition: Photo Blog

// August 29th, 2005 // 1 Comment » // Thoughts

It took some time and tinkering but I have made a brand spankin’ new section to this website. It is really a website if its own but there is no reason to split hairs. A Photoblog has been made to store and display newer high quality pictures I have been taking. This is the 3rd picture type service used on the site each one being used for different purposes.

Flickr is used for my phone camera stuff because I can put those into the system without touching a computer.

Lazy Gallery is used to store Chiefs pictures because it is the easiest interface to upload pictures. I just drop them in a folder and everything sorts itself. No problems.

This new site will allow you to browse through these new photos in a well organized aesthetic manner. You can add comments for each individual photo if you feel compelled.

Enough talking. Click here to check it out for yourself. In the future you will be able to locate it under the “Featured” section of the sidebar. For all of you geeks you can subscribe to its RSS Feed and ATOM Feed.

Hope you like!

Jon Stewart said some great things on the Daily Show the other day. He had Christopher Hitchens on who is quite articulate and interesting to listen to even though I don’t always agree with him. They had a pretty interesting debate and I wish it could have been longer. The text does not do the dialouge justice I encourage you to check out the video and pay special attention to the end.

Click here for the full video.

Stewart: The people who say we shouldn’t fight in Iraq aren’t saying it’s our fault. . . That is the conflation that is the most disturbing. . .

Hitch: Don’t you hear people saying. . .

Stewart: You hear people saying a lot of stupid [bleep]. . . But there are reasonable disagreements in this country about the way this war has been conducted, that has nothing to do with people believing we should cut and run from the terrorists, or we should show weakness in the face of terrorism, or that we believe that we have in some way brought this upon ourselves. . .

Hitch: [Sputter]

Stewart: They believe that this war is being conducted without transparency, without credibility, and without competence…
Hitch: I’m sorry, sunshine… I just watched you ridicule the president for saying he wouldn’t give. . .

Stewart: No, you misunderstood why. . . . That’s not why I ridiculed the president. He refuses to answer questions from adults as though we were adults and falls back upon platitudes and phrases and talking points that does a disservice to the goals that he himself shares with the very people needs to convince.

Times Are Uh Changin?

I am giving serious thought to overhauling the design of this site and doing something new. I don’t not like how this site looks, I actually love but sometimes I feel like it is time to do something different and more fun. There are a couple directions I could go. The thing I like about this look is the flexibility. The overall color scheme is very neutral so I can make a wide range of headers that have all kinds of stuff in them. If I were to go another direction it could be a great look but I would be limited color wise when it comes to the headers which I feel like adds a lot of personality to the site.

A few things are going to change content wise. Ok, nothing will change but some other things will be talked about. I am going to expand the horizons of things that are discussed. There may be a reorganization of the photo section. It is kind of stupid to have two different systems for showing the pictures. I should get one and stick with it. The live streaming radio may make a return after I talk to Jamie at JCHost.net little more. Whenever I obtain a camera video is going to become a much bigger part of ZachIsHere.

The winds of change descend upon my domain!

Update: 5:54 pm

I decided what to do picture wise. I am going to make Photoblog (example) to keep all the good pictures on. I will use Flickr for the daily camer pics I take now. It will be like having a seperate site but once it is set up it will pretty much run itself.

I took some time out of my day this morning to start my journey as a wannabe photographer. Armed with a camera and an assignment for class that had no boundries or limits I took a little walk and this is what I came up with. Below are thumbnails that lead you to the picture when clicked. If you want the full size or bigger versions click the picture and then “all sizes” button on each picture’s page. Anything stand out at you?

Some Of This And A Little Of That

// August 26th, 2005 // 2 Comments » // Thoughts

The point of all this is that it doesn’t matter how many times you fail. It doesn’t matter how many times you almost get it right. No one is going to know or care about your failures, and either should you. All you have to do is learn from them and those around you because…

All that matters in business is that you get it right once.

Then everyone can tell you how lucky you are.

I helped out a friend of mine set up her own blog site. It is for her family mostly centered around her young daughter Reese. A website is a good way to keep extended family and friends updated on your famlies whereabouts and to have a gathering palce for all those cute pictures used for torture later on in life. I couldn’t help but laugh reading this the other day from the end of a post about little Reese.

i must tell you about the galloping. suffice it to say that it’s her preferred method of transportation across a room.

Ha! You can read more at theklosters.net.

Something I overheard from a stressed out female trying to get her friend off her back.

Would you just get out of my face. My overies are shedding today!

I couldn’t help but laugh at such a quote. She saw me snickering and shot over a glare that was so good it could have been her major. Oh well, I deserved it.
