Kansas City Here I Come…

// July 31st, 2005 // 2 Comments » // Thoughts

I will be coming home on the 13th of August. It will be a chance to chill out with my family and some friends for a while before school starts up again on the 22nd. Ben Fold’s and Rufus Wainwright are playing at City Market that night and it looks like Megan and I are going to check out the show. At $13 per ticket the show is pretty hard to miss even though City Market is a terrible venue for both of these groups to play at in a musical sense. I am a big Ben Fold’s fan but the guy just seems to be getting lame in his old age. A lot of the songs on his most recent album seem recycled from older work. But to his credit he can throw out that kind of stuff and a lot of his fan base laps it up. I am excited to see what Rufus Wainwright brings to a show.

Blah With A Side Of Blah

I like my new place and all but this moving business is boring. Not having cable and internet gets old after a while. I mostly use my Play Station2 to watch DVDs but I decided to hook it up and play Madden for a while last night. I don’t understand how people sit down and play this game for hours and hours making their own franchises and managing them until freaking 2027 or however it works. I love football and its fun to play for a while but it seems I missed the class where everyone else was taught why playing it for hours on end was a good time.

I have been doing such a good job of getting up early and getting things done but this morning was an exception. It has been a really late start and as of the time of this post I have not done a damn thing.

Suprise…

As most of my readers know SMS is changing it’s name to Missouri St. for this fall semester. I did a little poking around and found out that when they make the official switch on August 28th the new domain for the website will be www.missourist.edu. I also found out that they are redesigning the site. This is great news because I always found the other one to be bland and boring. The template for the new site can be show by clicking here. I am impressed.

I Have Been Cut Off! The Horror!

The cable and internet in my place are no more. As I write you from a Missouri St. computer lab I can report that I have begun the process of moving into my new apartment. It is going well but it is also annoying; I had no idea how much stupid stuff I had.

It is the end of July so I will take this time to post some end of the month type stuff. Below is a link to this month’s music rotation. It is a collection that of songs that I found myself listening to a lot just recently.

I took a new record number of pictures this month on my phone with 106. You can check out the July collection through this link or see a pretty cool intereactive slideshow of them by clicking here.

Crazy College Kids…

My best friend Megan and her buddy Carri are moving to Springfield in the spring. They are getting an apartment together so they need furniture. How does the modern college student try to stay chic yet functional? Why not bombard a simple table with beer bottle caps?

This Week In Springfield Blogs

The local community of blogs in Springtown is growing and there are a wide variety of things that are worth shedding light on.

Dr. Cline takes a look at what is and is not a reportable fact for a journalist. “When reporters simply write what they are told, they are no more than stenographers.”

Steve drops a confession on his readers when he admits “I’m a highway geek.” In this post he puts out some different resources that give you information our nations highways and interstates. In classic House Of Warwick fashion there is a span of time with no updates and then a flood of new things is dropped in one day.

Dan at Moxie Blog displays some pictures from the ongoing design of the Moxie Theatre. Just so you know. “The panel is hot.”

John predicts a bombshell is about to explode on the Bush Whitehouse in the form of more incriminating photos and videos that Donald Rumsfield is trying to keep under wraps.

Anger Management asks the age old question that plagues all of our lives. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Who wins?

Chelsea vs. D.C. United

// July 28th, 2005 // 1 Comment » // Thoughts

My favorite Soccer team was in the states tonight in a game where the English Premiership Champion Chelsea Blues took on the MLS Champion D.C. United. I wasn’t sure what to make of this game because it is a friendly, exhibition type match. When I saw that Chelsea was lining up all their studs I decided it would be worth watching. The game was really good; D.C. United made a great showing and represented U.S. Soccer and the MLS very well in the 2-1 loss. The intensity was amazing, these guys really wanted to win. For my readers who have no idea what I am talking about I will put it like this. The Chelsea Blues are the best. They are one of the top 3 club teams in the world with only 1 loss in 38 matches last season. This is like pitting the NFL’s Superbowl Champion against NFL Europe’s World Bowl Champion. The New York Yankees vs. Legion Post 499’s little league team out of Memphis.

I didn’t get to see the whole match because of class but the biggest suprise to me was D.C.’s ability to match the engery and at some points set the tone for the energy of the match. They were doing pretty well with passing and moving the ball around but it seemed like when they had oppurtunities to take it to the net Chelsea would make an impressive move to lock them up or they would squander the chance. As the game progressed they got more quality shots that resulted in near misses, there were points where the Blues were downright lucky not to give up the equalizer.

Chelsea’s defense was impressive. They do this thing where their defenders seem to open themselves up and allow the offense to get good movement upfield but they actually lure you into a series of small pockets that act as traps. It is really effective because aside from doing a great job of execution it really puts momentum on their end when the offense gets their hopes up and is quickly shut down. Chelsea is the real deal and will no doubt have another good season.

Freddie Adu showed some flashes that help me understand all the hype he gets. United State’s soccer “wonder kid” has amazing burst. Chelsea’s world class defenders were dominated multiple times by the 16 year old. There was one point where all they could do was foul him.

Great showing by all sides. The near future is very bright for Chelsea and the big picture is bright for MLS and U.S. Soccer in general. I was impressed with the fan showing at the game which I believe was around 36k.

And you folks thought nobody in the U.S. liked soccer…
