What The Hell? You Better Be Adding A Bedroom To My Place.

// January 31st, 2005 // 2 Comments » // Thoughts

I am without showering capabilities. I had a small problem with my shower head so I called the people who manage my to have them come over and fix it up at their convenience. It wasn’t broken but it had a weird leak. A maintenance guy came over and got the shower head working in no time. It seems he thought there was a problem with the tile though because he took hold of a chunk and ripped it out. It is not as if it was hanging off or anything he really had to work to even get it loose. I looked at him confused. I have always been in the “if it ain;t broke don’t fix it” school of thought. It was foolish of me to think he was done at that tile, he kept going. At the end of his archeological dig into my shower he informed me that “this is going to be an all day job.” As if I didn’t assume he was going to fix everything he broke down.

The thrashing of my bathroom has resulted in what you see below.

Hopefully my goes back to being its old simple tacky self soon. Good luck to the Tigers who play at Kansas tonight. Hopefully we can pull off a refreshing little upset.

C’mon Just 3 More…

On Monday I am going to start excercising on a regular basis. I have kind of let myself go and intend to try and make this consistent part of my life. The facility at my school is very nice and my schedule is conducive to fitting in a good work out.

I have updated my “Random Observations” for the Month of Febuary, click here to check them out. If you have never read any of them then I would encourage you to scan the growing list. If you don’t get a chuckle from a few of them then there is nothing I can do for you.

Beirut Invitational Post Tournament Report

// January 30th, 2005 // No Comments » // Thoughts

34 Games Played
32 People
17 Teams
8 Hours
4 Kegs
2 Champions
1 Trophy

I had a really good time on Saturday. There were tons of people and the games were fun. I was matched up with Collum and we went 2-1 in our pool but couldn’t quite make the wild card round of the playoffs. We were one cup short in the end.

It was a really large group of people that just wanted to hang out with eachother and have a good time. Sometimes when the numbers go up its tough to keep a fun loving trouble free group but this was an exception. Click the link below to check out pictures I took from the day. There are about 40 shots. I have not seen this much consumed in a good long while. 8 hours of will do that I suppose.

By the way. Happy late anniversery to my parents. You don’t see a lot of 20+ year marriges these days. Quite an incredible sight. I hope they had a fun day.

Competitive Beer Ponging.

// January 29th, 2005 // 5 Comments » // Thoughts

Today is the tournament Pat asked me to come to. It seems as though this is a pretty big deal and teams were drawn and brackets were made so it seems like quite a festival. Hopefully there will be a good number of people.

For those of you who don’t know Beer Pong is a pretty simple game. It is interesting because people who are from St. Louis call it It is played on a ping pong table without the net. Cups are filled about halfway with beer and formed into triangles as shown below.

There are teams on each end of the table and the goal is to a ping pong ball into the opposing teams cups to force them to beer out of the cup. When that happens the cup is taken away and the goal is to make the other team drink all their and lose all of their cups. There are a lot of rules associated with how to and how not to throw catch and bounce the ball. If you are interested in the complete set of rules then click here.

I will take some pictures maybe even bring the video camera. If nothing else it should be humorous. Have a good weekend folks!

Ben Folds Coming Out With A New Album

// January 28th, 2005 // No Comments » // Thoughts

The new CD “Songs For Silverman” will be coming out on April 26th. It was also annouced “Whatever Ever and Ever Amen” was going to be remastered and released on March 22 with 7 lost bonus tracks added to it.

I am really interested to see what comes of this next album. I have always thought of him and his former group Ben Folds Five as one of my favorites. I loved the sound BF5 had so when they broke up I was pretty dissapointed. I enjoy Fold’s solo work but I feel kind of annoyed by him sometimes. I enjoy his music but he has this passive agressive political thing going on. The last time I went a show of his it was the River City Market in and he was playing with One of my friends Logan is a big Guster fan but had never listened to much of Ben Fold’s work and after hearing it for a while he commented that “He did not know where Fold’s was coming from and did not know weather to take him seriously or not.” This got me thinking about it and I feel like I know where he is coming from.

It seems as though he wants to say a lot of things politically or make social commentery but he does it in a way that seems to promote apathy. He also seems to want to deny some of the messages he seems to convey. I have no problem with any of these positions or an artist doing something like this but if you are going to do it then own it.

I may be thinking to much into it but it has been something that has been nagging me about one of my favorite artists. At the end of the day I still enjoy his music because that is what is for. I will be excited what he has lined up for us in “Songs For Silverman.”

Why The Midwest’s Weather Is Worse Than East Coast’s

// January 28th, 2005 // 4 Comments » // Thoughts

The weather here has been really rough. It is dropping the morale of the proffesionals and students that inhabit Springtown. I understand that people are snowed in and getting blizzard type weather on the east coast but I think the way our weather has been is just as bad.

Bear with me…

They know what to expect and they have adjusted to it. One day here it will be really pleasent. So much so that it is tempting to grab a pair of shorts and enjoy the amazing day. Do you know how fantastic it feels to enjoy that bit of refreshing weather after a Missouri winter? Just when you think life can’t get any better it becomes cold. We are talking the bitter cold that makes you yell and curse at your dashboard when you first get into your car and the seats chill your cheeks which leads to your whole body being cold. The nice weather from the day before is fresh in your mind and it is teasing you. The cold would not be as bad if I hadn’t tasted the warm weather. All I am need is a clean transition. Is this to much to ask?

Additionally, I will punch the next person who looks at me and says, “If you don’t like the weather just wait 10 minuets.” I wouldn’t have to much of a problem with it being said if the person didn’t look at me like I should react to what they said in a manner fitting a comment that is unique or funny.

I am begininning to see that I have a big problem with cliches. I think I take any anger I may have in my daily life and point them to people who use bad cliches.

It could be worse.

I have been trying to do more cooking this spring to help out my health and my money. It has been a mixed bag. I have mastered pasta with alfredo sauce. This week I put some chicken on the Foreman grill. It turned out really well. The chicken breast was marinated in a “honey teriyaki sauce.” I sliced up and apple and also had some yogurt with it.

Ok, so my sides and mixtures are strange. I could drop a nice cliche like “variety is the spice of life” but I have to much respect for myself and my readers.

I made a pretty good burger. Hopefully the grill lessens the amount of fat. I then tried chicken again and it did not turn out well. I am not sure if it was me or George Foreman but it did not pan out well. I am going to transition into eating 6 smaller meals a day.

I checked out my school’s fitness center and it is a lot more impressive than I thought. I will soon be making regular appearances.

I am in a strange mood. On Friday I am going to Zach’s house again and on Saturday I will be hanging out with my old room mate Pat. He convinced me to get into a Beer Pong tournament with him. We shall see how that pans out. I will finally be able to finish the Lunar Bowl site this weekend. Hooray!

The Start Of Radio Blog Wednesday!

// January 26th, 2005 // No Comments » // Thoughts

It has been a while since I updated the Radio Blog. I am going to start doing it every Wednesday. It seems to be the most popular feature I get a lot of good feedback from it. I have been listening to all kinds of weird stuff. Hopefully you catch something you like and give the song or artist a second listen.
