Nice To Meet You 2005. 2004 Was Kind Of A Prick.

// December 31st, 2004 // No Comments » // Thoughts

As 2004 is tucked away into the history books we are all looking forward to yet another year in 2005. It is interesting how the idea of a new year can feel like another chance. As if your slate is a little bit cleaner than the day before. How can you not live how arbitrary and hopeful people are?

2004 was not a bad year but it was a crazy journey putting me in very different places in as many aspects of my life as I can think of. It is interesting how my relationships with people have transformed. Some for better and some for worse. I think when I look back it will define itself has a definite turning point.

My plans seem to change every second. I have a DJ gig for a private party that will give me a nice chunk of change so that is what I will be doing. I don’t think I would party even if I wasn’t doing that. New Year’s parties have so much hype and they don’t live up to it. Some of them have turned out to not only be lame, but downright horrid. I would rather hang out and do some reading or just spend time with a few friends or that one special friend.

I wish all of my readers. The ones I know and the ones I don’t know a happy New Year and a good 2005. Please Please Please be safe out there on the roads. Be careful and have fun!

Afternoon Delight

// December 29th, 2004 // No Comments » // Thoughts

I watched Rod Burgandy for the first time last night. I love Will but I didn’t think the movie would be that funny. Boy was I wrong. Paul Rudd and a lot of other supporting cast people were halairious. The part where they sing “afternoon delight” had me rolling. I watched it at one of Danny’s frat brother’s houses. A guy named Travis, he is s good guy and has had me over before. The interesting thing was we went with some girls we used to hang out with in high school. It is always fun seeing people from the past but at the same time it is never the same. There is always the awkward feeling of being in different worlds doing different things. The process of expanding your horizons and then trying to jump back to the good old days is a strange one. Even with this it was great to see some of them and see how they were doing.

I worked at the Country Club tonight. We got really busy and it was pretty crazy for a while. One of the tables kept talking about how they liked their food but when they filled out a comment card I gave them they talked about how bad it was. This just struck me as funny.

This post is coming from Dirk’s house and we are starting another round of NES Monopoly. Good times are ahead…

Partisan Blinders

// December 28th, 2004 // No Comments » // Thoughts

I read a very interesting column by Leonard Pitts about how people tend to discard good evidence when it does not match up with their ideology. He poses interesting questions.

“A question for my Republican friends: Would you still love George W. Bush if he were Bill Clinton?

Seriously. If it were Clinton who had invaded Iraq based on erroneous intelligence, Clinton whose decisions had led to the deaths of over 1,200 soldiers, would you be foursquare behind him the way you are for Bush? Would you still support him even as he is vilified by half the country and much of the world?

And for my Democratic friends: Would you have felt the same about Clinton had he been Bush?

Had it been Bush who had an affair with a White House intern, Bush who looked the nation in the eye and lied about it, would you have been so willing to forgive? Would you still have opposed removing him from office?

In other words, are you guilty of double standards and outright bias?”

It is amazing how little you have to say to be thrown into a small box for the convenience of others. Any disagreement with the way the war in Iraq has been run and it is not long until your patriotism is questioned. On the other end self proclaimed liberals scream at the top of their lungs for people to be tolerant of others views yet they seem to be as intolerant as any group when it comes to others opinions and view points.

This article is a good read and is dead on in my opinion.

I Don’t Want To Say “Merry Christmas” Anymore

// December 27th, 2004 // No Comments » // Thoughts

It is not because I don’t like Christmas or didn’t have a great holiday. It is just because I am tired of it. I don’t think there are many people that are really that interested in how my Christmas was because what does everyone tell you when you ask about it? The same thing I tell everyone. “Christmas was great this year.” Even if hypothetically it wasn’t that great you would still tell people it was because that is what they want to hear.

I got an amazing camera phone for Christmas that will add to this website. I also got some nice assorted clothes from different people that will go well with my current clothes. Megan made me a shadow box type picture frame with a photo of us that also has some different things from when we have spent together like an old movie ticket and a piece of candy from a place we like to have dinner at. It was very sweet and will look good in my apartment.

We went to the Chiefs game on Christmas and they delivered us a nice gift by beating the Raiders by 1 point. It was quite an entertaining football game.

It is fun being home but I am starting to feel the urge to be in Springfield again. It looks like Megan and I are going to go down there on the 8th for a few days. I am going to show her around Springfield and we are going to go out to dinner and just spend some much needed time with each other. We are looking forward to it.

Tonight I went up to TGIF. I thought it was a dorky place to hang out but I had no clue how right I was until I stepped inside. Seems as though some of my friends wanted to hang out there because we knew a waitress that got them some pretty good deals. I had a few drinks with Chris, Danny, Katelyn, and Angie and then went home because nobody was really up to doing anything.

Hopefully something fun is put together tomorrow because all I will be doing is working until I go back. We shall see…

Picture Yourself On A Boat On A River

This whole break as been a blur. I am running around trying to see everyone and everything. I worked at the Country Club last night. It was good from a money standpoint and about as enjoyable of a time as being a server at a Country Club will allow.

I plan on taking it easy Christmas Eve. I am going to spend time with the family and do some last minute shopping. I find that when your life can allow it, being lazy can be quite good for the soul. This evening I am going to Megan’s and then going to church with her and her family in what has become somewhat of a tradition. I think we both really need each other right now. It has not been said out loud but sometimes it does not have to be. We are going to take a trip to Springfield in early January and I can’t wait to show her around.

I will leave you with an interesting link. The Christmas section of “How Stuff Works” answers a lot of questions and gives you very interesting information about Christmas in general. I would like to encrouage you to give it a click and learn something new.

Springfield Blogging Community?

// December 23rd, 2004 // 1 Comment » // Thoughts

I got an interesting e-mail from a professor of journalism at SMS last night. It seems as though this teacher wants to try and put together a community of blogs based in the Springfield area. It would have a loose association with a local paper and would be an experiment in “new media.” The idea is that blogs will be the future of local journalism. It is based on a project that took place in Greensboro, NC.

I really like this idea and I hope I can contribute to make it grow. I think it would be great to see a community formed that is like KC Bloggers for the Springfield area.

I will keep you updated on the status of this project.

Musical Chairs…

Relationships that are going on around me seem really strange these days. Everyone’s goal seems to be to keep themselves from drowning. It is as if people are playing not to lose rather than playing to win. I find it curious that so many people are driven by complete and utter fear when it comes to being with someone. I don’t deny being a part of this group but I am still amazed at how many people are in the club. I always thought it was better to be with someone you are crazy for and deal with some droughts of being single instead of being with a bunch of people that you have luke warm feelings for to avoid being alone or giving off the perception you are alone. There is a little couch between the people that never say the word marriage and people that are locked on to marriage and sprinting to it like they are going to stop preforming them tomorrow. More people should really join me on this couch. It is quite comfortable.

“The Eternal Bliss Of Zach’s Mind” – Chris

I am a bit shocked at how many people come up and tell me they read and enjoy this site. I have fun doing it even though my owning it really maxes out my “geek meter.” People are even putting in some ideas here and there as to some things that should be on here. The title of this post is an example of that. Chris told me this quote at the Chiefs game. At the time it made sense and it had a logical place somewhere around here but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was. I guess we can just leave it open to interpretation.

It seems as though people really like the Radio Blog which is great because there is a lot of good music on there that deserves to be listened to. I have not updated it in a while because I am on the house computer but I am going to crank out my one from school that has the tools to put songs in that format. Keep checking back on that.

I also encourage anyone reading to leave feedback in the “comments” box below the thread. You don’t have to say anything profound. You don’t even have to type anything worth reading. It is just a cool feature that gives the place a sense of community. They are open to be read by anyone.

My focus right now is on putting together a video section that I really like. I have a few new videos that will go along with the old ones to make a pretty good collection. It is just a matter of how I want to display them.

I will leave you with an interesting article about clubs that are letting the patrons play their own music off of their IPods. I thought this was pretty interesting and worth a read.
